Hudoq culture itself is a festival conducted by the Dayak sub-tribe in Kalimantan. Included are those in East Kalimantan. By using custom and mask, this is included in the barongan art.

In the past, it was believed that Hudoq was 13 pests that always damaged farmers' crops including rats, lions, crows and others. The dancers are symbolized as pests that attack the community's rice plants, therefore dancers use masks and custom as above. The hudoq dance will be finished after 2 hudoq people come out of hudoq and chase the existing hudoq. Usually this will take a duration of 1 - 5 hours. Long enough huh?

According to tradition, the hudoq festival is held every time you finish (planting rice) in the fields of September-October every year. The meaning, begging God's blessing so that the rice that is planted later produces a grain that multiplies to bring prosperity to the community. For generations, the festival was held moving from village to another village every year. But in East Kalimantan since 1999, the name Mahakam festival has been held. Then you will be able to see the hudoq festival at the Mahakam Festival, usually held in Samarinda City. And this is a big annual event that involves many participants, but not only the hudoq festival that you can see because there are also other festivals.

If you watch Hudiq, you will be presented with a dance that is sometimes similar to the mystical dance watched by the general public. Because when I watch this dance, like a handler who leads a ritual to summon spirits to enter the dancer's body. But at the moment I don't know whether this is still valid. Especially what will be shown at the Mahakam festival.

If you watch a hudoq festival, then don't be surprised this is one of the attractions that many tourists want to see from outside East Kalimantan. So that the program could be full and crowded.

Are you interested in watching the Hudoq festival, always update the news from us so that you will know when the Hudoq festival is held. With this news update you will have time to arrange your trip to Samarinda where the Mahakam Festival is held. Happy Traveling.
